Fences
(Footprint 9)

fences are a trapTeacher and Stanzy came to a field by the lake.  In the distance, someone had put up a fence around a large part of the field.  They were walking right towards it.

"Dear Stanzy," Teacher said.  "Why do you think people build fences?"

"I guess they must have livestock they want to keep in.  They might be afraid that without a fence, the animals will run away. Or maybe they want strangers to know it is their land because they are afraid stangers may trespass or
steal from them?"

"So," Teacher said as he began to walk faster straight towards the fence.  "People build fences around the land for the same reason they build fences around their souls.  Because they have fears."

"Fences around our souls?" Stanzy pondered aloud.

"Yes.  Built out of fear,"  he explained as he began to walk even faster. Stanzy picked up the pace to match his.   "We fool ourselves into believing that our fences are there to protect us and keep what we have safe. Yet, in truth they bind us and hold us in.  The fences that surround our souls serve only to keep us isolated from the ALL and keep out what we need."
